Senegalese international striker M'Baye Niang, released from his contract by Rennes who no longer relied on him, has signed up as a joker with Bordeaux for two seasons, plus an optional third, the Girondins said on Friday.

Niang, 26, author of 15 goals with Rennes during the 2019-2020 financial year truncated by the pandemic, comes out of a more complicated season with the Breton club (1 goal scored) before his loan last February at the Saudi club of Al-Ahli for whom he played 120 minutes in five matches.

Rennes didn't want it anymore

To join the Girondins, his 4th Ligue 1 club where he hopes to revive, the Senegalese international (15 caps, 4 goals) trained in Caen and passed through Italy (Milan, Genoa, Torino) and Watford in England, has agreed to considerably reduce his monthly salary which was estimated in Brittany at 250,000 euros.

According to several media, Stade Rennais will keep a percentage on the next resale of Niang and receive various financial bonuses.

Since the end of the transfer window, Gerard Lopez's club have been trying to find a center-forward after the failure of the arrival of the Egyptian international Mostafa Mohamed, who remained in Galatasaray because of a financial imbroglio with Zamalek, his club of 'origin.

The name of Niang, a player left out in Rennes and likely to become a joker because playing in France, quickly circulated on the side of Haillan until the outcome announced this Friday following nearly two weeks of negotiations.
