Robert Lewandowski achieved what many believed to be forever impossible on Saturday: he equaled the fabulous 40 goals in one Bundesliga season set in 1971-72 by legendary Gerd “Bomber” Müller.
After his goal, scored on a penalty in the 26th minute of the Freiburg-Munich match, the Polish striker unveiled a t-shirt under his jersey with the inscription "4ever Gerd", while his teammates gave him a guard of honor.
A heartache for Müller, seriously ill
His boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who has said for years that he is "the best center-forward in the world", however expressed what many Germans feel, a heartache for Gerd Müller, who ends his life at 75 years in an establishment welcoming Alzheihmer patients.

"I am a little divided", admitted the former double Ballon d'Or, "but I know what this record represents for Robert".
