The Chinese Athletics Association issued an announcement saying that according to the current global epidemic situation, the World Athletics Federation reached an agreement after consultation with the Chinese Athletics Association and the Yangzhou Organizing Committee to cancel the November 2022 event. The World Athletics Federation Half Marathon Championships, and decided to grant the right to host the World Athletics Federation Road Running Championships in March 2027 to Yangzhou.
The announcement stated that the Chinese Athletics Association and the Yangzhou Organizing Committee would like to thank the World Athletics Federation for their trust and support, and will continue to maintain close communication with the World Athletics Federation to make preparations for the 2027 World Athletics Federation Road Running Championships.
The IAAF Road Running Championship is a road running event that the IAAF will launch in 2023.
According to the World Athletics Federation, the World Athletics Federation Road Running Championships will be included in the Half Marathon Championships, the new World 5km Championships, etc., and the Volkswagen Championships and the Elite Championships will be held at the same time, further leading the development of the global road running industry.
