• Future: Fernando Alonso 2020: Dakar and Ferrari?

Fernando Alonso will take the start of the Dakar Rally 2020 at the wheel of a Toyota and with the help as co-pilot of his compatriot Marc Coma, multiple winner in the motorcycle category, as France Télévisions reported Monday and confirmed Marca.

The two-time world champion of Formula 1 ended last June with Toyota passing through the Resistance World Championship, where he won the title alongside the Swiss Sebastian Buemi and the Japanese Kazuki Nakajima, and for several months he has been speculating with his possible presence at the exit of the South American 'raid'.

In addition, the 38-year-old driver from Oviedo was already testing at the end of last March the Toyota Hilux with which Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah was proclaimed champion of the last Dakar Rally. The Spaniard made some tests on a path closed by the South African desert and completed his first kilometers along with the experienced Giniel de Villiers, winner of the Dakar in 2009 and habitual of the podium during the last years.

At his side, as a co-pilot, he would be a good connoisseur of the considered toughest 'raid' in the world as the Catalan Marc Coma, winner on five occasions of the test (2006, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015) in the motorcycle category and which was also its sports director for three years, leaving the post after the 2018 edition.
