In 2019, 25 years of the first Audi RS version have been completed - the RS2 Avant of 315 hp - and since then, many other special versions designed and manufactured by Audi Sport have been marketed for its sportier clientele. The acronym RS indicates -naturally- benefits inherited from high competition, but also cutting-edge technology along with luxury and comfort for its occupants.

The first RS6 Avant dates from 2008: equipped with an unprecedented 580 hp V10 biturbo engine and Quattro drive, it became the fastest family of the German brand. What is now presented is its fourth generation and one of the six new RS models that will be released this year.

Equipped with a 4-liter Mild Hybrid biturbo V8 engine, it provides 600 hp of power and 800 Nm of torque, allowing it to reach 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds ... and 200 in 12! This family-run vitamin sedan self-limits its speed to 250 Km / h, but whoever wants more can request the Dynamic 280 package or the Dynamic Plus 305 Km / h.

When Audi Sport does a preparation, it does it thoroughly. All the power of the V8 TFSI passes through an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox and Quattro transmission with mechanical central differential and variable traction distribution between the two axles and -even- between the four wheels (with the electronic sports differential). Additionally it has a 'launch control' system to leave black marks on the asphalt at each start.

However, the Audi RS6 Avant is a 'wolf in sheep's clothing': an 'almost harmless' family body hides a sports beast. And we say 'almost' because this time it shows a lot that it is an RS, especially front and back. Audi Sport engineers have not limited themselves to improving mechanics: they have also done so with aesthetics. Only roof, front doors and tailgate are the same as the A6, all the rest is new and made of aluminum.

It could be said that the RS6 Avant is a new car, at least very different from the model that comes. On the nose, the striated and domed hood is completely original, combined with the headlights of the A7 and a specific front bumper. The large hexagonal grill is now wider and integrates with two almost triangular side openings that aerate the radiators. On the calender you can see the characteristic slot of the modern RS and that comes from the R8 sports car.

An impressive and distinct front, which is complemented by side stirrups, a large rear skirt and a roof spoiler. But there is still more: the fins have grown four centimeters per side to accommodate the huge 285/30 wheels with wheels up to 22 inches.

Mechanically, the 600 hp of the hybrid engine connects to the road through the adaptive RS air suspension, which raises or lowers the height of the body depending on the speed. Although -the purists- can choose the RS sports suspension with Dynamic Ride Control, with steel springs and electronically interconnected dampers.

The new RS6 can also have four-wheel steering and ceramic brakes (34 kg lighter than steel) with 10-piston front calipers! taken from his brother the RS7.

But as the RS6 Avant must also be a car for every day, it has six different driving profiles and the COD, which allows the disconnection of four cylinders at low speed to save fuel and smooth the ride. The 48-volt Mild Hybrid system also collaborates with this and decreases the consumption of gasoline per 0.8 km by 0.8 liters.

The comfort of the occupants has been another of the concerns of Audi Sport, providing it with three digital screens very well integrated in the dashboard, with Virtual Cockpit and Head-Up display with exclusive sports dye information. But also with infotainment and other gadgets to make a long trip comfortable and safe (up to 30 driving aids).

The RS leather and Alcantara sports seats have their own hexagon embroidery design, imitating the front calender; and, behind them, there is a huge trunk that goes from 565 to 1,680 liters.

The new Audi RS6 Avant will be marketed from the beginning of 2020 in thirteen different colors, five of them in matte finish, and two interior design packages. In addition to many other mechanical and aesthetic options.
