In four and a half years in Saint-Etienne, Robert Beric has systematically delivered to the press models of measured speech, and especially boring.

But 14 months after his departure from Chicago Fire (MLS), the Slovenian striker is unrecognizable in an interview published on Tuesday by

France Football

.

In his viewfinder is a single man, Claude Puel.

Robert Beric explains clearly that he did not intend to leave ASSE from the winter transfer window of 2020, while he was under contract until 2022. But the dismissal of Ghislain Printant changed everything for him.

“Claude Puel arrived in October 2019 with another project, of which many players, including me, were not part, he confides.

When I went to ask him for an explanation, he replied that he didn't like the kind of striker I was, and that he didn't see me on his team.

He told me he wanted a fast forward, who could dribble, and that he wanted to build the future around Charles Abi.

"

"Puel gave the impression of being emotionless"

We can imagine the very hard blow for the experienced Slovenian (26 goals in 81 Ligue 1 games), when we know that Charles Abi (20 years old) now only has 3 achievements in 32 league games, and that he does not hardly showed a more mobile profile than him.

“A lack of respect” having pushed the hero of the derby (1-0 on October 6, 2019) to leave “sad”, then to empty his bag properly this Tuesday.

“I am surprised that Claude Puel still has so much power in Saint-Etienne despite the results, continues Inspector Beric.

Last year, he is lucky that the season ends [Sainté was 17th at the time].

Today, he is in the second half of the table, he loses 0-5 in the derby but he is not even threatened.

From what I experienced in training, Puel seemed to be emotionless.

He would arrive at the start of the sessions like a dictator telling us to do this and that, without ever smiling.
