In the year in which all supermarkets did good business, Jumbo managed to increase its market share, whereas ALDI in 2020 lost clientele on the total.
This is evident from figures from market research agency Nielsen on Thursday.
The share of market leader Albert Heijn (AH) remained at 35 percent last year almost the same as the market share of 34.9 percent a year earlier.
The total turnover of the Dutch supermarkets reached a record high of 44.7 billion euros last year.
Jumbo managed to gain considerably more market share.
The company went from 21 percent in 2019 to 21.5 percent in 2020. ALDI lost 0.4 percent to 5.5 percent.
Lidl, the other major discounter, remained at 10.7 percent.
Both AH and Jumbo gained stores in 2020.
In the case of the wholesaler from Zaandam, 12 stores were added and the total increased to 992. Jumbo grew by 10 stores to 679. ALDI has 496 and Lidl 432. A number of stores were added to both companies last year.
