Potato producer Aviko takes over a Unilever factory in Germany, the company reports Friday.

The factory in Stavenhagen processes potatoes into products such as mashed potatoes, dumplings, gnocchi and snacks.

210 people work at the German factory in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Parent company Aviko Rixona plans to use full capacity.

Aviko Rixona has set itself the goal of becoming the world market leader in potato granulate and flakes.

Demand for this is growing rapidly, according to the company, mainly due to the global hunger for salty snacks.

The German competition authority has yet to approve the transaction, which also includes a strategic collaboration between Aviko and Unilever. Everything is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
