Ex-cancer patients no longer have to state that they had the disease when applying for death risk or funeral insurance after ten years. The term is five years for persons under the age of 21.

The Council of Ministers thereby approved the proposal of Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Finance).

At the end of last year, Hoekstra already reached an agreement with insurers and patient organizations about the new agreements regarding funeral and death risk insurance for ex-cancer patients.

The new agreements will take effect from 1 January 2021. In that case, after ten years (five years for ex-patients under the age of 21), insurers may no longer take the illness history into account in the amount of the premium.
