Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has announced that he will donate $ 10 billion to fight climate change. The money should flow into an initiative called the Bezos Earth Fund, which will fund scientists, activists and non-governmental organizations from summer, Bezos wrote on Instagram.
"I want to work with others to both complement known ways and find new ways to combat the destructive effects of climate change. We can save the earth," Bezos wrote. An Amazon spokesman confirmed that the money will come from Bezos' personal wealth. Bezos is considered the richest person in the world. The value of his Amazon shares is more than $ 100 billion.
The business principle of the mail order company Amazon is based on the CO2-intensive parcel transport with cars and airplanes. Employees also criticize the company's business practices and demand that Amazon do more to combat climate change. Last year, Bezos had promised to achieve CO2 neutrality in the Amazon business by 2040.
