ABN AMRO has signed a new sponsorship contract with Ajax and will focus primarily on the women's teams, the bank reports on Thursday. The new contract will in any case run until mid-2023.
ABN AMRO was shirt sponsor of the men's team in the 1990s, but then disappeared from the shirts for some time. For five years the bank has been the main sponsor of women's football and youth teams. It is not yet known whether the youth teams will get another shirt sponsor.
"In 2020, ABN AMRO and Ajax will focus even more on increasing visibility and further developing the women's branch," the bank writes.
All women's teams are being strengthened, is the idea. In this way attention is not only paid to the first women's team, but investments must also be made in youth education. Ajax already set up a talent team itself and organized talent days for girls under nine, eleven and thirteen years old.
These activities will be further expanded with the support of ABN. The club and the bank also want to contribute to the development of girls' football at amateur clubs.
"We are on the eve of a new step in the stormy development of women's football: more and more girls are playing football, many players are arriving from the Netherlands and the media attention is increasing," says Daphne Koster, Ajax Women manager, about the developments.
