Audi has to recall around 40,000 old diesel cars in Germany. The automaker had received from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) a recall order for vehicles of the model series A4 and A6 with six-cylinder TDI engines from the years 2004 to 2009, said spokesman for Audi and KBA.
Audi needs to remove inadmissible programs from the engine control system that allow the vehicles to comply with the permitted nitrogen oxide exhaust limits only on the test bench, but to exceed them on the road. Now imagine "the KBA before a technical solution, after their release, the customers can be called to the workshops," said the Audi spokesman.
Since 2015, the KBA has issued 212,000 Audis callbacks. The diesel scandal has cost Audi around 3.4 billion euros.
