De Volksbank, the bank behind SNS, ASN Bank, BLG Wonen and RegioBank, booked a net profit of 154 million euros in the first half of 2019, slightly more than the 149 million euros achieved last year.

The slight increase was due to a decrease in costs, reports De Volksbank on Friday at the presentation of the half-year figures. Operating expenses excluding statutory taxes decreased to 255 million euros due to lower personnel and marketing costs.

The market share on the mortgage market fell from 7.2 percent in the whole of 2018 to 6.6 percent. Private savings deposited at de Volksbank increased by 1.1 billion euros to 38.5 billion euros. This did decrease this market share from 10.6 percent to 10.4 percent.
