Protesters in Sri Lanka set fire to the residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. This is reported by Newswire, citing the prime minister's office.


“Protesters broke into the private residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and set fire to it,” the report said.

As AFP previously reported, protesters in Sri Lanka surrounded and took control of the residence of President Gotabai Rajapaksa, the head of state was forced to leave it.

Also, the head of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress party said that the speaker of the Sri Lankan Parliament will become the new president of the country.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe announced his intention to leave his post.
