The US authorities are discussing with allies the prospects for introducing a ceiling on purchase prices for Russian oil, said First Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Adewale Adeyemo.

"The goal is to lower the price they can charge in the future when selling crude oil," Adeyemo said at a hearing before the US Senate Appropriations Committee, TASS reports.

According to him, the US is trying to prevent Russia from benefiting from rising oil prices on world markets.

Adeyemo also said that Russia probably increased its oil revenues, the United States authorities expect to reduce them.
