Former world champion Andy Murray, 32, has been injured since the Davis Cup final six weeks ago. Now he withdraws from the Australian Open, which starts on January 20.

"I am devastated at not being able to play in Australia, but this is a safety precaution," Murray told The Guardian.

Earlier this year, the star made a comeback following a successful hip operation, but in October he injured one elbow when he won his first tournament in two and a half years. Then he also had groin problems during the Davis Cup in November.

Murray's team hopes the 32-year-old can return in February, but misses 2020's first grand slam.
