The Athletics World Cup in Doha, Qatar, is approaching by leaps and bounds.

In three weeks the competitions start, and today is the last day to perform results that are good enough to receive an invitation to the competitions.

Blomberg one of the competitors

As far as is known, there are four Swedish athletes competing this last night. In Spanish Andujar the competition El Meeting de Atletismo Jaén Paraíso Interior-Memorial Francisco Ramón Higueras is held. There are three Swedes registered:

  • Hanna Hermansson, 800 meters
  • Meraf Bahta, 5,000 meters
  • Emil Blomberg, 3,000 meter obstacle
Bahta has not impressed

For Meraf Bahta, it will be the third competition after her comeback, which came after a year's suspension for violating the doping rules. Her first results have not impressed, but she has been far from the World Cup qualifiers.

- It is so difficult to draw any conclusion from the results, since she has not competed for a long time. So she may compete again and see if she has the shape or not. But it is very difficult to get into the hot air directly and chase the World Cup qualifiers, we did not know then, says Karin Torneklint to SVT Sport, and continues:

- But I just think it's fun that she competes again.

Kamga throws in Södertälje

Two weeks ago, Doldisen Emil Blomberg was just 2.5 seconds from the World Cup qualifying limit, when he ran 3,000 meters in the time of 8.31.57 in Berlin.

- If he finds back to that form he definitely has the chance, so far from it he is not. But it's important that he gets it, says Karin Torneklint.

In addition to the three mentioned, Vanessa Kamga also competes, when she throws discus at the Kringelkastet in Södertälje.

"Can get an invitation"

But even if she does not pass the qualifying limit of 61.20 (2.14 above her personal record), she has the chance to get a World Cup ticket.

- She is the best of the four. She is 32nd on the list right now, so she can get an invitation anyway, says Karin Torneklint.

"Exciting to see"

Even if an athlete fails to meet the qualifying limit, they can still get a World Cup ticket, since the International Athletics Association wants to fill the branches with a certain number of participants, in the women's discus just 32 people.

- And if I understand IAAF correctly, we will start receiving invitations on Monday. So it will be exciting to see what invitations we receive, says Karin Torneklint.
