On 7 February, Donald Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen wanted to testify before the US Congress. However, Cohen informed his legal advisor Lanny Davis that the appointment was postponed.

The Davis statement states that Cohen and his family are being threatened by Trumps and his lawyer Rudolph Giuliani. "This is a time when Mr. Cohen needs to put his family and their safety first." Details about the "threats" Davis did not name.

Cohen will continue to cooperate with all authorities and appear and testify before the House Committee at a later date, Davis announced.

Key figure in the Russia investigation

Cohen was a close confidant of Trump for more than a decade. Meanwhile, the two have fallen over - and Cohen cooperates with special investigator Robert Mueller. The investigates possible collusion of the Trump camp with Moscow in the US election campaign in 2016. Trump rejects this and speaks of a "witch hunt". Cohen is considered a key figure in the investigation.

In December, a federal court in New York sentenced Cohen to three years' imprisonment, including for tax evasion and false statements before Congress. He admitted that he lied to Congress during Russia's investigations into a planned Trump construction project in Moscow. He should take his prison sentence on 6 March.
