Hanover (dpa / lni) - The letters from the Lower Saxony state government to start vaccination for over-80s have also been sent to several deceased.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has confirmed this, according to consistent reports.

The NDR reported, among other things, on a case in which the letter was addressed to a man who died 39 years ago.

In view of this, the opposition renewed its criticism of the use of postal data for the letter campaign.

“It was a mistake from the start to rely on the Post.

Because you know that their address lists are neither complete nor correct in any case, ”said the Green MP Meta Janssen-Kucz on Thursday.

She asked the Ministry of Social Affairs to stop the cooperation and to only send the information letters in cooperation with the municipalities.

Although errors could also occur in the population registers, this is the better way.

For the bereaved, the letters are "always a burden".

Prime Minister Stephan Weil had said on Wednesday about the letters to the deceased that he would have been surprised "if things like that weren't there somehow".

He very much hopes that these are exceptions.

"But in a project of this size, in my opinion, we will always have some jerkiness where it is not actually 100 percent what you want," said the SPD politician.

"I think it's a shame that something like this is happening, I'm sorry too."

However, the Ministry of Social Affairs made the right decision in terms of providing quick information.
