Environmental experts are investigating the cause of death after a giant whale carcass was found on the southern coast of Italy, facing the Mediterranean Sea, local media including ANSA reported on the 21st (local time).

This whale, which was collected off the coast of Sorrento, a small town close to Naples, is a species of whale that is known to be 20 meters long and weigh at least 70 tons.

The Coast Guard, who towed the body, said it was one of the largest whales ever found in the Mediterranean.

The whale was first discovered by a diver of the Coast Guard on the 17th, and after a long towing operation, it was brought to the shore at dawn on the 20th.

At the time of discovery, a small whale disappeared after exhibiting very unstable behavior, such as banging itself against the wall of a harbor, experts believe it is a baby of a dead whale.

Marine biologists and other experts will autopsies the carcasses of whales to determine the exact cause of death.
