Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The Frankfurt mattress manufacturer Emma increased its sales by 170 percent to 405 million euros last year.

The profit has also increased and is in the double-digit million range, said founder Manuel Müller in an online conference.

The company, which has been majority owned by the Haniel family company since 2020, does not publish exact figures.

Emma was founded in 2013 as an online platform for mattresses and sleep systems.

Today the company sees itself as a “sleep tech provider”, claims to be present in 26 countries and employs more than 500 people.

The company also owns the traditional Dunlopillo brand.

In addition to online sales, the company's products are also available from more than 100 retail partners with over 1700 sales outlets.

Emma wants to grow strongly in the current year and hire more than 200 additional employees, said Müller.

One hope is a foam mattress that can be controlled via a smartphone and that can automatically adjust to the respective sleeping position.

The "Emma Motion" mattress with a recommended price of 2500 euros or more is to be offered to customers in the Netherlands and France first.

The companies involved estimate the world market for mattresses at around 70 billion euros.
