The Assistant Secretary General for UN Peace Operations arrives in Mali, a few days after the attacks attributed to the jihadists and which claimed the lives of five UN peacekeepers in the regions of Timbuktu (north-west) and Kidal in the (north-east).

Jean-Pierre Lacroix will make field visits to several localities to pay tribute to the peacekeepers, but also to mark the United Nations' commitment to remain alongside the Malians.

On the ground, he will most likely raise issues related to the security of his troops.

And why not encourage his people to better adapt the security system in the face of enemies still present and who are receiving more and more reinforcements from outside Mali.

The agenda of the head of UN peace operations also includes meetings with Malian officials, and those involved in the peace process.

The implementation of the Algiers peace accord is rather sluggish.

During his talks, the host from Mali will pass on messages to get things done.

According to a source inside the UN mission in Mali, Jean-Pierre Lacroix is also there to listen to the transitional authorities he is meeting for the first time since the coup d'etat of August 18.
