"At the Sheremetyevo airport, officers of the search department of the operational department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow detained Alexey Navalny, who was sentenced to suspended sentence, who has been on the wanted list since December 29, 2020 for repeated violations of the probationary period," the department said.
Earlier, the Federal Penitentiary Service announced that Navalny violated the rules of serving a suspended sentence and could be detained in the near future.
At the end of December last year, a criminal case was initiated against him in accordance with Part 4 of Art.
159 of the Criminal Code of Russia.
According to investigators, Alexei Navalny and his assistants appropriated and spent on personal needs more than 356 million rubles that belonged to various non-profit foundations.
Since the end of August last year, he has been in Germany, where he underwent medical rehabilitation.
On January 13, Navalny announced his intention to return to Russia on social media.
