• Report: Congress lawyers support investigating Juan Carlos I but the PSOE will maintain its vote against

  • Politics. The Government affirms that Don Juan Carlos will keep the title of King "for life"

Congress is blind to the creation of a commission to investigate the alleged irregular practices of the King Emeritus, especially the use of opaque cards with funds donated by third parties, as claimed by United Podemos and its pro-independence, nationalist and minority left-wing allies.

The Table has rejected the proposal of these formations with the votes of PSOE, PP and Vox against those of United We Can and this despite the fact that the Chamber's lawyers had finally issued a very brief report admitting the possibility that this commission had the green light .

The vote of the socialists together with popular and Vox to avoid the investigation of Juan Carlos I, widens the crack that exists between the two partners of the government coalition regarding the Monarchy.

The first and harshest criticisms have been directed against the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who has defended the refusal to create the commission and have come from the Secretary of State, Ione Belarra (Podemos), accusing her once again of being aligned with the extreme right.

The majority socialist part argues that a commission of these characteristics would induce the questioning of the fundamental institutions of the State.

On the contrary, the minority bloc of the Executive, has insisted on the need to clarify the opaque businesses of the Emeritus, especially those allegedly carried out after his abdication and, in this sense, strictly limit the inviolability that affects the Crown.

However, the objective of United We Can and its allies goes further and goes through encouraging a process of change towards the republic in the form of the State.

Defense Minister Margarita Robles has been the government voice that has most clearly defended the refusal to open the aforementioned commission.

This has led to the immediate criticism of the Secretary of State for Agenda 2030 and number two of Pablo Iglesias, Ione Belarra, accusing her once again of "protecting privileges and aligning with the right and the ultras."

"It is disappointing," he added in a Twitter message.
