In total, there are 30 conscripts who are expected to complete the training, which lasts a total of 11 months.

- The cyber platoon is conducting a training so we probably do not notice the attacks more than anyone else.

On the other hand, you can take with you that we live in a more digitalized world and you hear all the time about attacks in cyberspace, says Captain Martin Liland.

Cyber operations are military operations that are carried out with resources and methods that are not normally available through conventional forces:

  • "Defensive operations: aims to defend information systems, including electronic communications networks, in order to prevent opponents from affecting information, information systems, computers or networks."

  • "Offensive operations: aims to prevent the opponent from using their systems or to force the opponent to suspend attacks on Swedish systems."

"Obvious part"

But this is the first time a basic military education has been held with that focus.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces, cyber operations are "an obvious" part of modern warfare on land, sea and in the air - and thus also part of the Swedish defense.

Do you think it should have existed before?

- It is great and very exciting that we are conducting this training of cyber soldiers right now, says Martin Liland.

The conscripted cyber soldiers carry automatic weapons and face paint when SVT visits them at the Command Regiment in Enköping.
