Mr. Myung-hee Myung-hee, head of the Trade Bargaining Headquarters of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has entered the final round of the election for the secretary-general of the WTO, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

The WTO Secretariat will officially announce this at the WTO's unofficial ambassador-level meeting on the morning of the 8th local time.

The candidate who made it to the finals with General Manager Yoo was Nigerian candidate Okonzo-Iwella.

With two female candidates advancing side by side to the final round, the first female secretary-general in 25-year WTO history was born.

If General Director Yoo is elected, he will be the first female secretary-general of the WTO and the title of the first WTO head in Korean history.

Earlier, the WTO secretary-general, former Minister of Commerce and Industry Kim Chul-soo in 1995, and Park Tae-ho, former head of the Trade and Bargaining Headquarters in 2013, threw out votes, but he was highly praised.

Bloomberg said that the WTO Secretariat plans to proceed with the consultation process for the third and final round from the end of this month to the 6th of the following month, with a final conclusion made before November 7th.

In the final round, 164 member states may only give preference to one candidate.
