The head of the Israeli intelligence service (Mossad) Yossi Cohen held security talks in Bahrain after the two sides agreed to normalize their relations.

The Bahrain News Agency reported today, Thursday, that the head of the Mossad discussed "issues of common interest", as well as "prospects for cooperation between the two countries" with the head of the intelligence service, Adel bin Khalifa Al-Fadil and the head of the strategic security apparatus, Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa.

Cohen arrived in Bahrain on Wednesday on an official public visit.

The agency added that the two sides stressed the importance of the role that "the normalization of relations will contribute significantly to enhancing stability and upholding peace values in the region."

Bahrain and the UAE had signed an implementation agreement with Israel at a ceremony at the White House in mid-September.

The Palestinians have condemned the two agreements with Israel as a "stab in the back" that undermines their aspirations for an independent Palestinian state.

Earlier, the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, said that his country's normalization with Israel was not directed against any entity or forces, but rather aimed at "achieving a comprehensive peace in the Middle East."

In this context, the Israeli media revealed that Tel Aviv has been running an interests section in Manama for more than 10 years.

The state broadcaster said that Israel is operating this office to promote economic and political steps in the region.

She added that the Israeli Foreign Ministry plans to establish an embassy in the Bahraini capital, Manama, in the future, on the basis of this representation, in light of the official normalization between the two countries.
