The town hall of Marseille has asked the government to postpone for ten days the decision to close the bars and restaurants in the metropolis.

But the executive wants to remain inflexible and will not grant any waivers.

The local elected officials of Marseille are ready for a standoff with the government.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region will file on Friday an interim relief in court to prevent the closure of bars and restaurants in the metropolis of Aix-Marseille, while the town hall of the Marseille city has asked the government for a delay of 10 days.

But the executive does not intend to grant any exemption and stay on the line set Wednesday.

"To concert does not mean to come to an agreement"

Despite the rebellion of local elected officials, the government sees no reason to make tailor-made in Marseille.

"The situation is too serious", we slip to Matignon.

"To consult does not necessarily mean to come to an agreement. At one point, the principle of responsibility must prevail", moreover answered the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, Thursday morning, during his hearing by the committee of Senate investigation into the health crisis.

On Wednesday, the government announced, without prior consultation with the communities according to them, the closure on Saturday in Aix-Marseille and Guadeloupe of bars, restaurants and establishments open to the public, except those with a strict health protocol like theaters, museums and cinemas.

These two geographical areas are now on "maximum alert", the last level before the state of health emergency, according to the new classification of the authorities.

The failure of the Castex method

This showdown with the elected officials of the Marseille region is in any case a real hitch, even a failure for the method of Jean Castex.

Since his appointment to Matignon, the Prime Minister has made proximity, listening to the territories and dialogue the cornerstones of his policy.

The entourage of the Prime Minister often pleads for this rebalancing: "Castex wants to reconcile Paris with the territories", one regularly hears in Matignon.

Jean Castex's advisers even imagine that listening to the field would be the method to fight against local rebellions and

ultimately

the "yellow vests" effect.

For 24 hours, the anger in Marseille shows that the government has failed.
