Uppsala municipality has wavered in the question of whether to inform if covid-19 is found in preschools and schools.

At first, no information was released unless the teaching was affected, then in July, information began to be published to all guardians and staff at a school.

Since a few weeks ago, it has once again been "the lid on".

The issue has now been investigated and discussed with the Uppsala Region and a new decision has been made:

Christina Stenhammar, head of primary school in Uppsala municipality.

- In collaboration with the Uppsala Region, we have come to the conclusion that we will go out with information to directly affected guardians and employees, says the elementary school principal in Uppsala, Christina Stenhammar.

So that if you may have been exposed to infection, you should find out, if you go to the class where there is a confirmed infection?

- Yes.

"24 hours"

Where do you draw the line?

- That you have been close to the person 24 hours before the illness.

If you have a lot of shared teaching, an entire year can be informed.

What will be the difference from previous routine?

- During the summer, we had a routine where we went out to all employees and guardians in a business.

We could see that created a lot of concern.

They became thoughtful about "am I one of those who have been exposed to the risk of infection or not".

For that reason, we chose to pause it and to investigate whether the school should really go out with this information.

Earlier this autumn, for example, Tiundaskolan in Uppsala had confirmed covid-19, which was informed to all students, guardians and employees.

- Then we could see that it created very great concern among many: "I have relatives in the risk group, I really need to know".

It became a terrible situation, says Christina Stenhammar, head of primary school.

"Refers to experience"

If you turn it around - some may feel safe if the school tells everyone if you have been infected?

- Of course it can be.

But I refer to our experience that it creates concern among relatively many.

After the summer holidays, three primary schools in Uppsala had students with a confirmed covid-19.

Christina Stenhammar does not want to say which schools it is about.

- I think we do not communicate it.

What is the societal benefit of it?

In addition, it has already passed.

The new routines in Uppsala apply from now on.
