Government parties and their partners have stopped this Tuesday the processing in Congress of a legal change so that politicians stop electing the members of the governing body of judges, the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

The Citizens' proposal finally had the support of the PP, which seconded it despite the fact that it had not spoken up to now in favor of this bill.

In fact, the

popular ones

had rejected similar proposals in past legislatures.

Pablo Casado is now betting on reforming the Organic Law of the Judicial Power and that is why he refuses to agree with the PSOE on the renewal of the CGPJ.

Vox and the Asturias Forum also positioned themselves in favor.

All the rest of the House voted against and charged against the PP for blocking the renewal of the Judiciary.

Inés Arrimadas presented this initiative as "one of the great pending reforms" in the country.

And she recalled that Pedro Sánchez herself was in favor in 2014 of achieving "a truly independent CGPJ from the Government."

Arrimadas assured that there is an "overwhelming majority" who demands "to end the shameful distribution of judges, sometimes in a sloppy way and by WhatsApp."

"Neither block, nor fingers, it is time to listen to judges and citizens," he concluded.

In addition to the CGPJ, the proposal also proposed to reform the selection of the members of the National Court and the Supreme Court to make them totally independent.

All these measures were framed in an improvement also in the fight against corruption, because it is these courts that investigate and prosecute politicians who are allegedly corrupted.

The proposal met with the wall of the left and the nationalists, who knocked down its consideration.

The PSOE spokeswoman, Isaura Leal, defended the independence of the Judiciary, an independence "that is not questioned by the participation of Parliament in its election."

The socialists -and other groups- recalled that this mixed system of election -the judges propose and the Courts elect them- also works in the US and in much of Europe and no one questions the quality of these democracies.
