NEW CHINA / SIPA

We do not discover that the health situation in China is not always absolutely optimal.

This new episode, this time in the city of Lanzhou, in the center of the country, does nothing for China's reputation in this area.

More than 3,200 people have been infected with brucellosis, a bacterium that had escaped from a pharmaceutical plant in the area.

A factory that produced the vaccine for this disease which mainly affects animals but which is transmitted to humans.

CNews

, citing the Chinese online media Pengpai says that the case dates back already last year.

At the end of July 2019 (before therefore, a priori, the appearance of the coronavirus in Wuhan, further south), and for several weeks, the veterinary vaccine plant used expired disinfectants for its maintenance.

Result: not everything was perfectly disinfected and the bacteria, necessary for the manufacture of a vaccine, was able to spread via the vapors given off by the plant.

At the time, the Chinese authorities reassured, explaining that the quantity disseminated was low and especially without effect beyond a few meters.

Obviously this was partly false since 3,245 people were infected.

Eight people from the factory were sanctioned for this fault in its sterilization of production lines.

Brucellosis, when transmitted to humans, causes high fevers, body aches, rashes, and muscle pain.
