Coordinating for a meeting between Prime Minister Suga and the US Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministers' Meeting September 19, 5:09

A meeting of four foreign ministers, Japan, the United States, Australia and India, is expected to be held in Tokyo early next month.

At the same time, the meeting between Prime Minister Suga and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States is being coordinated.

The four foreign ministers' meeting between Japan, the United States, Australia and India was first held in New York last September.



As a result of coordinating with each country to hold the second four-country foreign ministers' meeting in Tokyo, the Japanese government is expected to hold it early next month.



The meeting will be attended by Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Australian Foreign Minister Payne, and Indian Foreign Minister Jai Shankar.



In addition to discussing the ideal form of international cooperation in response to the spread of the new coronavirus, we will continue to work closely toward the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law, with China's advance into the ocean in mind. It is expected to confirm the policy of going forward.



Along with this, the meeting between Prime Minister Suga and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is being coordinated, and if it is realized, it is expected that Prime Minister Suga will have the first opportunity to meet with foreign dignitaries in person.
