A tragedy occurred late Monday afternoon in Lingolsheim, in the Bas-Rhin.

A 28-year-old man pushing his scooter was struck by a train near Lingolsheim station, a police source said, confirming

He died instantly.

The victim is said to have crossed the track when the security barriers fell.

Witnesses tried to alert him to the imminent arrival of the convoy.

The train conductor also triggered the warning signal seeing the young man entering the track, to no avail.

The victim was hit head-on.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact conditions in which this tragedy occurred.
