According to the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation, airspace control over the neutral waters of the Black Sea detected two air targets approaching the border.

"To identify air targets and prevent violation of the state border of Russia, a Su-27 fighter from the air defense forces of the Southern Military District was taken into the air," TASS reports.

It is noted that the crew of the Russian fighter approached the air targets to a safe distance and identified them as the US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and the US Navy P-8A Poseidon base patrol aircraft.

Earlier it was reported that the MiG-29 was accompanied by two aircraft of the Norwegian Air Force over the Barents Sea.
