2011.Strauss-Kahn, to the waitress: "Don't you know who I am?"
Dominique Strauss-Kahn: this is his discreet life in Marrakech with his fourth wife
Nafissatou Diallo
, the former Guinean cleaner at the Sofitel hotel in New York who in 2011 accused the then head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Dominique Strauss-Kahn
of rape, has broken her silence nine years after the scandal that ended the presidential aspirations of the French politician.
"The Strauss-Kahn affair ruined my life," Diallo says in an exclusive interview with French magazine
Paris Match
.
Diallo
maintains that he told the truth about what happened on May 14, 2011
when he entered to clean room 2806 of that New York hotel and found the French politician naked.
Strauss-Kahn, also known in France by the acronym DSK, has always denied the accusations.
During the interview with
Paris Match
, the woman does not say the words "rape" or "assault" at any time, but instead
speaks of "accident"
.
Nine years later, she says she has nothing to say to Strauss-Kahn.
"I told the truth and they have deprived me of justice," says the former Sofitel employee, who is preparing a book about what happened almost a decade ago.
Diallo believes that he can never be happy again.
She is hurt that the American press said that she was a prostitute.
And she reveals that she even thought about committing suicide.
"I received death threats. After the civil (financial) settlement, I received many letters, often from strangers, who spoke to me as if I had won the lottery. Some accused me of having set up DSK, of having blackmailed him . There were all kinds of conspiracy theories, "the former cleaner now explains.
Strauss-Kahn, whose name
sounded before this scandal as one of the socialist candidates
most likely to defeat Nicolas Sarkozy in the 2012 presidential elections, was arrested at the New York airport as he was about to catch a plane bound for Paris.
In August 2011,
the New York judge officially dismissed the charges brought against DSK
, following the prosecutor's request, considering that it could not be proven, "beyond a reasonable doubt", that the French politician raped Diallo.
The credibility of the cleaner had been in question.
Diallo changed his version of what happened three times
and allegedly spoke with her boyfriend, imprisoned for drug trafficking, about the money he could get from the case.
She denies the latter.
The Prosecutor's Office also discovered that the immigrant had allegedly lied when requesting asylum in the United States, by assuring that she had been raped by a group of men in Guinea.
She maintains that it is true that she was raped.
Strauss-Kahn was eventually
cleared of charges and both parties reached a financial settlement
to close the civil suit.
According to
Paris Match
, DSK paid Diallo a million dollars.
She neither confirms nor denies it, but assures that the agreement reached with the former IMF leader does not prevent her from writing a book about what happened.
"I assure you that if Dominique Strauss-Kahn had been poor, homeless, on the street, he would be in prison today
,
"
says Diallo.
Following the DSK scandal, Diallo opened a restaurant in the Bronx, which she ended up selling after a fire, and stayed away from the media.
The former cleaner, who has acquired American citizenship, does not want to reveal where she lives now and what she works to protect herself.
In addition to writing a book, she would now like to create
a foundation to help "in all linguistic, psychological, financial and legal matters" immigrant women
who, like her, "have come to the United States without an education, without even speaking the language and they have lived through horrible situations. "
