50 thousand dirhams to unblock the vehicle overtaking the red light in Abu Dhabi

Law No. (5) of 2020 regarding the seizure of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi imposed a fine of 50 thousand dirhams, to release the vehicle's seizure in the event of exceeding the red light, in addition to paying the violation and withdrawing the driving license for the violator for a period of up to 6 months starting from the date of the withdrawal of the license.

Abu Dhabi Police explained that in committing a red light violation, the offender is obligated to pay the financial fine for this violation of 1000 dirhams, seize the vehicle for 30 days as stipulated in the Federal Traffic Law, and then pay a fine of 50 thousand dirhams, in order to be able to release the reservation on The vehicle, as stipulated in Law No. (5) of 2020, and in the event that the fine related to the seizure is not paid within 3 months, the reserved vehicle will be sold in the public auction.

As of Wednesday, the Abu Dhabi Police General Command began implementing Law No. 5 of 2020 regarding the seizure of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Director of the Central Operations Sector, Brigadier General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, said that the law does not conflict with the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law and came as a result of accurate studies of the reality of statistics of accidents and traffic violations committed by drivers during the past years, with the aim of enhancing traffic safety and intensifying violations with the increase in the number of vehicles, urban development and the reduction of committing violations.

Al Khaili mentioned that the Traffic and Patrols Directorate is constantly working on reviewing and updating the list of applicable legislations and regulations according to the traffic reality and has studied the most dangerous violations that cause accidents in order to deter reckless drivers by toughening penalties and enhancing traffic safety.
