Earthquakes of magnitude 6 or more occurred in succession in northern Chile.


The U.S. Geological Survey said there was a 6.5-scale earthquake off the coast of Atacama in northern Chile at 5:9 p.m. local time yesterday (1st).



The earthquake site is located 120 kilometers southwest of the mining town of Copiapo.



The epicenter is relatively thin at 14.3 km.



Disaster management authorities in Chile have said that there is no human injury or disruption in the supply of public services.



In the area where the earthquake occurred, earthquakes of magnitude 6.8 and 6.3 occurred in succession immediately after midnight.



There were dozens of aftershocks, including earthquakes of magnitude 5 or more.



Blackouts and landslides have occurred in some areas.



In Chile, a part of the Pacific Rim midwifery called the'ring of fire', earthquakes occur frequently throughout the year.
