In a few years, nine new electric trains will be delivered, replacing ten of today's electric trains. But also the number of trains will be reduced, the new trains will be able to take more passengers in total because they are longer.

Leif Andersson (C) is vice chairman of the committee for traffic, infrastructure and the environment at Jönköping County.

- The new trains have higher operational reliability, says Leif Andersson when SVT meets him in Nässjö where a new train depot is proposed to be built.

The new trains need a new larger depot to be maintained and on Tuesday the proposal will be up in the regional council.

Existing trains were old when they were bought

Carl-Johan Sjöberg, traffic director at Jönköping County Traffic, states in a press release from the Jönköping County Region that today's electric trains were about 20 years old already when they were acquired and that there will be a big boost with the new ones.

In the long run, it will be relevant to exchange for more electric trains as the railway network becomes increasingly electrified.

- This is a huge investment, completely in accordance with our regional development strategy, where we secure train traffic in the long term, says Sjöberg.
