Located a few kilometers from Paris, the Vallée-aux-Loups offered Chateaubriand in 1807 a home away from the political scene which he left for a time after having published in the Mercure de France an article denouncing Napoleon's despotism. which earned him the sanction of moving away from the capital. In November 1807, the author moved with his wife Céleste in what was then only a gardener's house, to which he gave a very personal imprint which today makes it a unique writer's house, strongly marked with the presence of the author.
