SVT Nyheter Väst has in a series of articles described how poorly this year's school choice and school placements in Gothenburg worked in practice. Many students were placed in schools they did not choose, far from home and peers. Both children and parents were furious, and a record number of decisions were appealed.

In July, school councilor Helene Odenjung (L) said that she would quit as a councilor and full-time politician, but emphasized at the same time that the decision had nothing to do with the school choice.

Apologized

Last Thursday, SVT Nyheter Väst wrote that the primary school director Bengt Randén apologized for what had happened, that an internal audit report had been completed and that a comprehensive package of measures would be presented.

But that is not enough, thinks the Democrats, who also do not believe that a new major reorganization is the solution to the problem.

- The shortcomings are so serious that we in the Democrats demand that those responsible at management level make their seats available, says municipal councilor Jessica Blixt in a press release where she also calls for new forces and more competence to get order at the school in Gothenburg.

No names

But they do not say exactly which heads she and her party comrades want to see roll. Group leader Martin Wannholt only states that more changes are needed than "the responsible municipal council has announced its resignation".

- We do not point out more individuals in this situation, but want those who have not managed their task instead to leave voluntarily, he says in the same press release.
