The United Arab Emirates and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations between them, according to a joint statement issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and US President Donald Trump.

Senior White House officials said that under the agreement, Israel agreed to suspend the extension of its sovereignty over areas of the West Bank that it was considering annexing.

Bin Zayed said that in contact with Trump and Netanyahu, a roadmap for joint cooperation had been agreed upon, in order to establish the agreed upon bilateral relations.

The UAE embassy in Washington considered the agreement to fully normalize relations as a victory for diplomacy and the region, while Brian Hook, the US special envoy for peace, said that the agreement was a "nightmare" for Iran.

US President Donald Trump said the signing ceremony was expected to take place at the White House in a few weeks.
