Sharp increase in elderly fraud in northwestern Skåne

Fraud or attempted fraud is a growing problem for the elderly and for the police in Northwest Skåne. In one year, the number has increased from a single registration to 24 - an increase of 2,300 percent.

In most cases, the elderly fall into the trap and disclose the information that the fraudsters want. Of the 24 registrations this year, only about eight were not completed.

According to the police, the fraudsters are good at finding credible methods such as pretending to be police officers or bank officials - or grandchildren who need money.

Municipal police Johan Mangbo believes that it is a type of crime that goes in waves.

- And in August this year, we are currently seeing an increasing trend, he says.
