Israel said today that it has thwarted a cyber attack on its military industries, carried out by a group of hackers that experts believe are operating from North Korea.

According to a press release by the Israeli Defense Ministry, the attack was carried out by the international "Lazarus" group, which is active on the Internet, and said it was "supported by a foreign country."

The United States says that North Korean intelligence is running the "Lazarus" group.

Israeli authorities stated that infiltrators claiming to be employers and sending job offers to workers in the military industries sector in an attempt to penetrate their networks and gather sensitive information.

The ministry statement added that the group established false data on the "LinkedIn" network to cover up the hackers, and separately attempted to infiltrate Israeli military companies through their websites on the Internet.

The ministry indicated that the attacks were monitored on time and thwarted without any obstruction to the work of these companies' networks, but it did not specify the targeted companies or the timing of the attack attempts.

In recent months, Israel has accused groups supporting Palestine, and others backed by Iran, of trying to carry out cyber attacks on sensitive Israeli companies.
