China News Service, Penang, August 11 (Reporter Chen Yue) Former Malaysian Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife Zhou Yuqing were sued by the Anti-Corruption Commission in Penang Butterworth District Court on the 11th for alleged bribery and money laundering.

This is the third time Lim Guanying has been charged by the Anti-Corruption Commission to the court since the 7th of this month. The previous two times were related to the Penang Undersea Tunnel Project.

The Anti-Corruption Commission alleged that between 2013 and 2016, Lim Guanying, the then governor of Penang, on behalf of his wife’s company, demanded a bribe of 372,000 ringgits (1 ringgit equals 1.66 yuan) from a businessman surnamed Peng in exchange for one family. A company called Magnificent Emblem Pte Ltd can participate in the construction of a "foreign labor village" project with a total price of over 10 million ringgit. The businessman surnamed Peng was also charged in court on the same day.

Lim Guanying and his wife were charged with bribery and money laundering respectively. Like when the Penang Undersea Tunnel Project was brought under control before, Lim Guanying denied all the allegations against herself and his wife, and at a subsequent press conference accused it of political retaliation and declared that she would prove her innocence in court.

Lim Guanying, 59, is the secretary-general of the opposition Democratic Action Party. He served as the Minister of Finance in the Mahathir government from May 2018 to February this year. (Finish)
