An Iranian fighter jet intercepted an aircraft in the Syrian airspace, while it was heading to the Lebanese capital, Beirut, which resulted in the injury of a number of passengers, while reports conflicted about its identity, according to the "Sky News" website.

A video posted by the agency showed a fighter plane from the passenger plane's window and comments from a passenger whose face was stained with blood.

Iranian media initially said that the fighter was Israeli, while news agencies quoted the commander of the Iranian plane as saying that two American fighters had approached the plane in Syrian airspace.

A source at Beirut Airport said that the Iranian Mahan Air plane was heading from Tehran to Beirut and landed safely in the Lebanese capital.

An Israeli army spokesman declined to comment.
