China News Agency, Toronto, July 17th: According to the Chinese Embassy in Canada on the 17th, Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong Peiwu recently said in a webinar hosted by the Canada-China Trade Council that China does not require Canada to do between China and the United States. "Multiple choice questions", I believe Canada has enough wisdom to actively cooperate with China while handling relations with the United States.

Cong Peiwu delivered a keynote speech on China's economic situation and China-Canada economic and trade cooperation at this webinar on July 15 local time. He said that in the process of fighting the epidemic, China and Canada have launched a series of cooperation, including personal protective materials, to support each other and overcome difficulties together, which fully demonstrates the profound traditional friendship between China and Canada. He believes that the space for pragmatic cooperation between China and Canada will be wider in the post-epidemic era. The healthy development of China's economy, as well as the many economic measures taken by China at present and in the future, will surely provide a lot of opportunities for China and Canada to deepen economic and trade cooperation.

Regarding new opportunities for China-Canada to deepen economic and trade cooperation in the future, Cong Peiwu suggested that everyone focus on the key development areas highlighted in this year’s Government Work Report, areas where China’s current foreign investment policy is further relaxed, and areas where Hainan Free Trade Port is open to a high level.

When talking about China-Canada relations, Cong Peiwu pointed out that China has always believed that there is no fundamental conflict of interest between China and Canada. No matter from the perspective of history, reality or future, mutual respect and seeking common ground while reserving differences are the solid cornerstones of the healthy and stable development of relations between the two countries. Complementary advantages and mutually beneficial win-win results are a powerful driving force for the continuous expansion of pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

"It is undeniable that the current China-Canada relations are also facing challenges," Cong Peiwu said. "Frankly speaking, the biggest problem in the current China-Canada relations is largely from the interference of the United States. China does not require Canada to do between China and the United States. 'Multiple choice questions', we believe that Canada has enough wisdom to actively cooperate with China while handling relations with the United States."

He pointed out that both China and Canada are committed to developing the economy and improving people's livelihood. They share a wide range of common languages on issues such as safeguarding multilateralism and free trade, supporting the United Nations, WTO, WHO, and addressing climate change. It is hoped that Canada can proceed from its own interests and make correct decisions as soon as possible, correct mistakes, and properly resolve the biggest obstacle in Sino-Canada relations, so that bilateral relations can return to the right track, thereby unlocking the great potential of bilateral cooperation.

Speaking of the Hong Kong National Security Law, Cong Peiwu pointed out that for any country, national security legislation belongs to the national legislative power and has a sufficient legal basis. Hong Kong’s national security legislation is aimed at very few acts that seriously endanger national security, does not affect Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy, does not affect the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents, and does not affect the legitimate rights and interests of foreign investors in Hong Kong. The implementation of the National Security Law will play a key role in restoring Hong Kong’s social order, stabilizing Hong Kong’s financial market, and restoring investor confidence, helping to consolidate Hong Kong’s status as an international financial and business center, and promoting Hong Kong’s faster economic recovery.

He hoped that the business circles of China and Canada would further forge ahead, continuously deepen and expand economic and trade cooperation based on complementary advantages and mutual benefit, and play an active role in promoting the friendship between the two countries and the two peoples.

The Canada-China Trade Council was established in 1978 and is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting China-Canada commerce, trade and investment. A total of 150 representatives of the Canadian business community and more than 20 representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in Canada participated in the webinar. (Finish)
