The International Court of Justice decided yesterday that the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is competent to consider the national allegations of civil aviation against the four countries, and the UAE announced that it will go to present the legal case to the "ICAO", to defend its decision to close its airspace In front of the Qatari aircraft.

Commenting on this, the State’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. Hessa Abdullah Al-Otaiba, said: The decision of the International Court of Justice was a technical decision, limited to procedural matters and jurisdiction to deal with the conflict, and he considered only the procedural foundations of the case.

"We are fully respectful and appreciative of the International Court of Justice, and we will look closely at its decision, and the four countries, including the UAE, will depend on important points in the procedures mentioned in the decision before the ICAO Council, and we have noticed that there are other important issues It was not mentioned in the ruling, and these are issues that we will address before the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ”

"We look forward to making it clear to the Council (ICAO) that the UAE has imposed its measures to prevent Qatari aircraft from entering its airspace, as it is one of the many measures that have been followed by 10 countries, after ending its diplomatic relations with Qatar." This came as a result of Qatar's long-term support for terrorist and extremist groups, and its continuous attempts to destabilize the region, and the UAE trusts that the Council will not attempt to question the national security decisions that ICAO member states are entitled to take, and until then, the special measures taken since 5 6/2017 in the valid UAE airspace.

Al-Otaiba concluded, saying: This dispute will not be resolved through ICAO or any other international organization, and relations will not return to what they were, except when Qatar is committed to the four countries in implementing the Riyadh agreements, and proves that it can play a constructive role in the region.
