The 58-year-old Maxwell, former partner and ally of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is accused of attracting young girls to Epstein so he could sexually exploit them.

Procuring and trafficking

Four of the six charges brought by the prosecution against Ghislaine Maxwell relate to procuring and trafficking between minors between 1994 and 1997. The other two are about perjury in 2016.

Guarantee hearings are being held on Tuesday and Maxwell's lawyers are pushing the line that there is no risk of escape for their client, and that she is in danger due to the corona pandemic if she continues to be detained.

The prosecution, on the other hand, claims that there is a risk of escape. Among other things, prosecutors are expected to refer to the circumstances surrounding Maxwell's arrest in early July.

Tried to escape from the police

According to the FBI, Maxwell refused to open when they arrived at the property where she was. Instead, the police could see through a window how she tried to escape into another room and close the door behind her.

The police then broke open the door and arrested her.

Maxwell - who is the daughter of the late media mogul Robert Maxwell - participated in Tuesday's court hearing via video link from the Metropolitan Detention Cente where she has been in custody since she was arrested.
