"The most important thing is to locate them, and offer them support," says Anna Runesson, NMT, National Methodological Support for Prostitution and Trafficking in Human Beings.

The picks deliver the women

The National Methodological Support for Prostitution and Trafficking in Human Beings (NMT) region, which includes Gävleborg, shows increased mobility among pimples during the corona pandemic.

The picks in the Mitt region, ie Uppsala, Västmanland and Gävleborg, are otherwise largely centered around Uppsala - the women are now simply delivered to the city where the buyers are located. Gävle among others.

- You travel with your women on so-called “out call”, where you may be in a different city in the region than where you live. You are driven out to the sex buyer instead, says Anna Runesson.

Previously unknown group of women are advertised online

Among the larger cities in the region Mitt, Västerås, Uppsala and Gävle, Gävle is the city with the least activity among sex buyers.

One consequence of the corona pandemic has had on the sex trade in the Mitt region is that a new group of women is advertised online.

- We see women coming here who have lost their jobs in their home countries because of the pandemic. Which made them forced into prostitution, says Anna Runesson.

Increased competition creates a vulnerable situation

Early in the pandemic, sex purchases declined sharply, creating an increased competitive situation for customers.

- Then you can be forced to offer services that you otherwise would not have agreed to at all, says Anna Runesson.
