Iranian media sources reported today that an explosion was heard west of the capital, Tehran, which cut off electricity to the western outskirts of the city.

Mehr and Iranian television news agencies reported that an explosion was heard from the Karmadra town near the city of Karaj in Alborz province and the town of Jerusalem, west of Tehran.

For its part, Iranian News Agency quoted media reports as saying that electricity was cut in the explosion area, on the outskirts of western Tehran.

During the past few days, Iran witnessed a series of explosions that shook several sites, the last of which was last Tuesday in a factory in southern Tehran, killing two people.

Before that, a fire broke out Thursday before last in a building in the underground nuclear facility Natanz, which plays the main role in Iran's uranium enrichment program, and the authorities said that the fire caused great damage.

Also last week, 19 people were killed in an explosion at a medical facility north of Tehran, and an official said the cause of the explosion was a gas leak.

On June 26, an explosion occurred in eastern Tehran, near the Parchin military base, where weapons are being developed, and authorities said the explosion occurred due to a leak at a gas storage facility outside the base.

The head of the Iranian Civil Defense Organization, Ghulam Reza Jalali, said that Tehran does not exclude sabotage action by opposition groups or a cyberattack by America, while others believed that the explosions were caused by attacks behind Israel.
